Sex Toys and History

How many people are aware of the history of sex toys? Did you know that they can be dated back around to 500 BC? They were called Olisbos, and were an early version of the dildo. They were sold around the Mediterranean as sexual refuges for lonely ladies.

Looking to spice it up why not try Sex Toys a great tool for your bedroom tool box.

The first vibrator was debuted in 1869 by George Taylor M.D, an American physician. It was a huge steam powered machine. Originally designed to treat what was then known as "female hysteria"

It was the Victorian era and it was firmly believed that women were not at all sexual and they were treated as diseased if they showed signs of enjoying sex. Dr Taylor’s machine treated these women by massaging their vulvas until they reached "paroxysm", more commonly known now as an "orgasm"

1882 and British physician Joseph Mortimer Granville designs a battery operated vibrator which was much smaller than the one designed by Taylor. This device came with attachments mot unlike those in todays vibrator kits. These then allowed the doctor to vary the sensations his patient would feel.

However, Granville was firmly opposed to using his device as a treatment for female hysteria and considered it useful only for massage of men’s skeletal muscles to treat injuries caused by overexertion.

Between 1900 and 1920 the "home" vibrator starts to gain popularity. Most homes now had electricity and the plug-in vibrator was one of the first electric home appliances.

In 1921 the first advertisment aimed at men to encourage them to buy their wives a vibrator was seen. It encouraged men to buy vibrators for their wives as Christmas gifts to keep them young and pretty and free of that horror "hysteria" In the late 1920′s vibrators began to appear in porn, as what they have become today, as a masturbation device. One old porn movie "The Widows Delight" shows a woman who would rather use her sex toy than have sex with her male suitor.

This is just a small sample of the history of the sex toy. Oh how times have changed! From the early days of using a piece of polished wood and lots of olive oil, to having the freedom to walk into an adult store and purchase the toy of your choice. I wonder what the men and women of a hundred years ago would think of our ability to purchase these products at our whim and need?

The secret to a happy love life and that is Sex Toys a great tool for your bedroom tool box.
