The Hobart Racecourse has a grass surface and is commonly known as Tattersall’s Park or Elwick. Found in Glenorchy, Tasmania, it has great views of the Derwent River as well as Mount Wellington. Running at least 110 races yearly, Hobart, TAS, horse race track is best known for flat racing of thoroughbreds. Presently managed by the Tasmanian Racing Club, the racecourse has 4 chutes and and egg-shaped circuit.
Located at 6 Goodwood Road, Glenorchy, Tasmania, the Hobart Racecourse has a final straight of 350 meters and 1,990 meters in circumference. Each race is run on a counterclockwise direction. Popular races at Hobart, TAS, horse race track are the Hobart Cup, the Tasmanian Derby, the Thomas Lyon’s Stakes, and the Elwick Stakes. Although Hobart Racecourse doesn’t host any Group 1 and 2 competitions, the Hobart Cup is the most expensive race in Tasmania with a prize of $400,000. The open handicap race is currently the most popular race staged at the Hobart race track.

The Hobart Racecourse is very near The Brooker Highway, the River Derwent, the Hobart Showground, and the Derwent Entertainment Center. Horse racing started on this race track in the 19th century. It was first leased to the Tasmanian Racing Club in 1874 but was later sold to the club. There used to be a drive-in cinema inside the racecourse in the 1980s. The Hobart, TAS, horse race track had a makeover in 2004. The renovation was spearheaded by the Tasmanian government. It included a track for greyhounds, a new grandstand, public lounges, lawned areas, and dining areas. A total of $20 million had been allocated for the major revamp of the racecourse. The racing industry is presently being restructured in Tasmania. It is said that it will be jointly managed by TOTE Tasmania as well as the Racing Services Tasmania.
